Bangalore: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Minister for Transport N. Cheluvaraya Swamy and Minister for Health R. Ashok launched an accident rescue wagon and a conference coach here on Tuesday. M.R. Srinivas Murthy, Managing Director of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, said the accident rescue wagon has been indigenously designed and developed by the KSRTC and the Comprehensive Trauma Consortium to render professional medical aid in the event of mass causalities, especially on highways in the State. The rescue wagon, which is the first of its kind in the country, is a model that will be replicated by other State transport corporations, he said. He said the wagon is designed to accommodate 10 critically injured persons on the spinal board in addition to 16 persons with minor injuries.
Features
The wagon has automated external defibrillators, ECG/pulse oxymetry monitors, centralised suction facility, pneumatic splints, inbuilt oxygen and suction pipelines, spinal boards, custom-made first-aid kits, jumbo oxygen cylinders, extrication equipment, onboard computer for tele-transfer of medical information, GPS (Global Positioning System) for tracking and monitoring, and wireless communication systems. There will be trained paramedics to resuscitate victims during the "golden hour". Mr. Murthy said the conference coach, a concept evolved by the KSRTC, has been specially made for multinational corporations, corporates, businessmen and politicians to conduct onboard meetings during long journeys. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities which make it the ideal choice for conducting business meetings and conferences while on the move, he added. "It has an aesthetically designed conference hall that can accommodate 16 persons, a 21-inch colour television set with DVD, audio and video players, a public address system, worktable, fans, pantry with a refrigerator and gas stove, toilet facilities and a mobile-phone charging unit," he said.
