JD(S) to discuss Karnataka issue

Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE: A meeting of the State unit of the Janata Dal(Secular) is being convened at Thrissur on March 23 to discuss the situation arising out of party president H.D. Deva Gowda's decision to recognise his son H.D. Kumaraswamy as JD(S) leader in the Karnataka Assembly.

The JD(S) national leadership had initiated action for the expulsion of Mr. Kumaraswamy and his supporters from the party for forming a Government in Karnataka with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as an ally.

JD(S) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar told mediapersons on Tuesday that the Thrissur convention would be attended by members of the State working committee, district presidents and office-bearers of feeder organisations of his party. "The JD(S) in Kerala stands united against what Mr. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Deva Gowda had done. We dissociate ourselves from Mr. Deva Gowda's decision," Mr. Veerendrakumar said. The Thrissur convention is expected to consider the issues that the State JD(S) might be confronted with in the context of the coming election to the State Assembly on account of the sharp differences in the national party leadership triggered by Mr. Gowda's latest move.
