NEW DELHI: A man, arrested last year with three leopard skins in his possession, was sentenced to three-and-a-half year's rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi court on Tuesday. Observing that carrying on business or selling leopard skins was prohibited, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Jain found convict Ashok Nath guilty of the offence under Section 51 (trade or commerce in wild animals, articles and trophies) of the Wildlife Act. The court also slapped on the convict a fine of Rs 10,000 in default of which he would have to spend another three months in prison. The Delhi Police, acting on a tip-off, had on May 20, last year arrested Nath, a native of Bijnore district in Uttar Pradesh, near a bus stand at Raghubir Nagar here. .- PTI
