National conference on Pupil Assessment System

NEW DELHI: A three-day national conference on Pupil Assessment System at Elementary Level began at the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) premises here on Monday.

About 75 academicians, teachers, experts and members of various non-government organisations are participating in the conference which is aimed at evolving a consensus on an appropriate approach and methodology for utilising experiences of different States related to assessment of learners' achievement.

The participants are working at evolving a strategy for pupil assessment to enhance the quality of elementary education in all parts of the country through sharing of experiences and creating network for collaborative interventions.

The deliberations during the conference are expected to enable NCERT to strengthen the pupil assessment system for use as a diagnostic tool to relate learners' achievement with educational inputs and processes.

Also, the discussions will help devise mechanisms for specific target groups like slow learners, gifted children, children from disadvantaged groups.
