KHAMMAM: A total of 41,021 students appeared for the SSC examination from 165 centres in the district on Tuesday. The examination went off peacefully. But the examinees were forced to squat on the floors to write their papers for want of infrastructure in 70 schools. The department sources said that as many as 40 Government schools and zilla parishad shools did not have desks and benches. A proposal was made for hiring furniture wherever required. But it would involve an expenditure of about Rs 5 lakhs. It did not materialise for one reason or the other. At some centres, desks and benches were provided to the students by acquiring from other institution and offices. The District Educational Officer, Rameswar Raju and the examinations observer, Suvarna Alivelu visited 57 examination centres and took stock of the facilities provided to the students. Mr. Raju said that there were no instances of malpractice. He explained that the RTC had extended cooperation by rescheduling their services for the benefit of the students appearing for the public examinations from remote areas. Six squads visited schools in Khammam, Kothagudem towns and some Zilla Parishad schools as part of the drive to check malpractice.
Tight security
KARIMNAGAR : The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination began here on Tuesday amid tight security. Collector C. Parthasarathi inspected examination centres in the town and reviewed arrangements. He instructed officials to provide drinking water facility and medical teams at all centres. A total of 62,074 students are taking the examination in 249 centres in the district. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed at all the examination centres. The Education Department has opened a control room at its office. People can lodge their complaints or pass any information about malpractice, if any, to the following telephone numbers 0878-5502784 and 94415-38893.
