BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has urged the authorities concerned to upgrade traffic infrastructure on the proposed Volvo Corridor to bring about optimum benefit to commuters. BMTC's demands include synchronisation of traffic signals to avoid bunching, priority of signals to Volvo buses to economise running time and standardisation, and even total elimination of road humps and rambler-strips, according to Dastagir Sharief, BMTC Chief Traffic Manager (Operations).
Better facility
Volvo buses have been introduced on routes between Kempe Gowda Bus Station (KBS) and Electronic City, and KBS and ITPL in order to provide world-class travelling facility to the public. It is aimed at discouraging personalised modes of transport and to decongest roads, he said. Owing to non-availability of upgraded infrastructure and traffic snarls, BMTC is incurring a cost of Rs. 42.50 per kilometre in running these buses, Mr. Sharief said. BMTC will shortly introduce three more Volvo routes under the Volvo Corridor. This includes V2- KBS to JP Nagar VI Phase via Corporation/ Cauvery Bhavan, Vijaya College, Jayanagar IV and V Blocks and JP Nagar 15th Cross; V201 Domlur to Srinagar via Kathriguppe, Banashankari, BTM Layout, Koramangala, Halsoor and Indiranagar, and V500 Banashankari to Banashankari via Jayanagar IX East, Silk Board, Agara, Marathalli, KR Puram Railway Station, Kalyana Nagar, Hebbal, Goraguntepalya, Kottigepalya, Papareddypalya, Kengeri Satellite own, Pantharapalya, PES Institute of Technology and Kathriguppe.
