This Day That Age
The opposition parties in the Travancore-Cochin Legislature have protested against the action of the Rajpramukh in asking the Chief Minister, Mr. P. Govinda Menon, who had resigned, whether he could form a Ministry and not calling upon the PSP leader to form a Cabinet. The State Committee of the Communist Party in a statement on March 21 said, "We want to know what right the Rajpramukh has to ask the Chief Minister, who had resigned and who himself had admitted defeat, to form a Ministry while at the same time not calling upon Mr. Pattom Thanu Pillai, who has been assured of the support of the majority in the Assembly." Strongly protesting against the "tactics of the Rajpramukh and the Congress Party," the statement said, "the Congress Government at the Centre and the Congress Party in the State are together hatching a conspiracy making the Rajpramukh an instrument." The PSP leader, Mr. Pattom Thanu Pillai, said, "It is un-understandable how the Rajpramukh could ask the Chief Minister whether he could form a Ministry when he had resigned on the specific ground that he did not have the support of the majority in the legislature. Either the Rajpramukh has made a gross mistake or Mr. Govinda Menon is trying to mislead the public by an untruth. In either case, it is regrettable," he added.
