COIMBATORE: The Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives' Association of India (FMRAI) has urged the Government to address the issue of black marketing becoming rampant in the pharmaceutical industry.
Immediate attention
R. Viswanathan, president of FMRAI told presspersons here on Monday that the problem of spurious drugs entering the market cried for immediate attention. The Tamil Nadu Medical and Sales Representatives Association (TNMSRA) would hold the 24th State conference of Medical Representatives in Coimbatore in the second week of July to appeal to the Government to take action against such practices.
Pressing demand
It would also press the Government to bring down the prices of drugs, thereby making it affordable for even the weaker sections of the society. The Associations urged the Government to look into the "irrational" pricing of the same drug by companies, which often confused the public. "The public should be made aware that they should buy medicines only with a prescription, and also get a bill for the same. This way, sales can be documented," Mr. Viswanathan said.
Campaign on
The medical representatives are also carrying on a campaign to make the public aware of such issues. Among the other demands of the Association were the need to institute statutory working conditions for medical and sales representatives, and accepting eight hours of work a day and five-and-a-half working days a week.
