Better infrastructure sought at ICD
COIMBATORE:
The Coimbatore Custom House and Steamer Agents' Association has sought better infrastructure and cargo handling facilities at the Inland Container Depots (ICD) here. About 2,000 containers go out of Coimbatore every month. However, less than 50 per cent of these go through the ICDs here, said some of its members. Further, the volume of cargo handled by these ICDs had been dwindling every year, they alleged. To improve the cargo handling at the ICDs, they said electronic data inter-change should be implemented. They also sought more trailers and multiple contractors at the ICDs.
