Banks to disburse Rs. 1,639 cr. in Palakkad

The district has achieved 102 per cent of loan disbursal target

PALAKKAD: Banks in the district through their 389 branches will give a loan of Rs. 1,639.36 crore in the priority sector during the 2006-07 financial year.

Lead district manager P. Anilkumar here said after the district level review meeting of the performance of banks that out of this an amount of Rs. 881.06 crores will be given to the agriculture sector and Rs. 161.25 crore to the industrial sector. The other priority sectors will get an amount of Rs. 597.06 crore in the next financial year, he said.

In the current financial year, in the first nine months up to December, 1,975 educational loans for an amount of Rs. 22.87 crore was distributed.

During this period 11,118 self-help groups were formed in the district and out of this 4,787 were given loan to the tune of Rs. 20.34 crore.

Mr. Anilkumar said that the district has achieved 102 per cent of target for loan disbursal.

During 2005-06 the loan target fixed was Rs. 1,684.39 crore and till December an amount of Rs. 1,724.74 crore was distributed.

Of this an amount of Rs. 1,078.82 crore was given to the priority sector.

The total bank deposit in the district is Rs. 5,001.44 crore and the loan amount stood at Rs. 3,968.14 crore.
