Hubli-Dharwad
Staff Correspondent
HUBLI: Following complaints about autorickshaw drivers demanding more money from passengers, the Hubli-Dharwad Police have registered 252 cases against auto drivers in two days. Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani said in a press release that the drive against erring autorickshaw drivers was conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday during which a fine of Rs. 35,800 was collected. He said that though the Regional Transport Authority has made installation of revised fare meters in autorickshaws compulsory, the drivers are demanding excessive fares from passengers. During the drive, it was noticed that though several autorickshaw drivers had got the meters installed, they were not using it, Mr. Nadamani said. The Police Commissioner has appealed to people to report to the nearest police station or traffic police station if any driver demands fare in excess to what has been fixed by the Regional Transport Authority. He has also requested people to ask for the revised fare chart, which the Regional Transport Authority has distributed among autorickshaw drivers, and pay accordingly.
