Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: Lokayukta N. Venkatachala and his team visited different government offices and hospitals in Saundatti and Ramdurg towns on Wednesday. Disappointed with the "negligent" and "irresponsible attitude" of doctors and the health staff at the government hospitals, Mr. Venkatachala warned the District Health Officer to ensure discipline and that the doctors and the health staff work with dedication in government hospitals and health centres. He took officials of the Saundatti Taluk Panchayat to task over the poor quality of construction of houses under the Ashraya housing scheme. He found out that there were no bills and records for he cement purchased. He ordered an inquiry against two Assistant Executive Engineers. Later, he visited the tahsildar's office where he found that the staff had not cleared applications for widow pensions and financial assistance to the physically challenged. He asked the Planning Officer of the town municipality to conduct an inquiry into the irregularities he had found and submit a report at the earliest. He also asked the District Registrar to submit a detailed report on the large number of complaints he received from people.
