KOCHI: The Indian Lawyers' Congress (ILC) State convention will be held here on Sunday at the Fine Arts Hall. The ILC is the legal wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, ILC president, said here on Wednesday that KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala would inaugurate the meet at 10 a.m., and M.I. Shanavas, KPCC general secretary who is in charge of legal wing, would deliver the keynote address. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the valedictory session in the evening. About 1,600 delegates would participate in the meet. The topics that would be discussed include the need of a Supreme Court Bench in South India, implementation of Section 21 of the Advocates Act to protect the right of lawyers in all legal proceedings and role of lawyers in the elections to safeguard the interest of UDF candidates. "We will be asking for the service of at least 10 lawyers in each constituency, especially in North Kerala," said Mr. Khan. The ILC would play a major role in projecting the Congress' ideology on its independent platform, he added.
