Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Rural Police have launched an investigation in the wake of the seizure of nine country-made bombs from a cattle shed of a house at Narikkatteri, near Nadapuram, on Tuesday. A police team from Nadapuram station recovered the bombs, which were stored in a plastic bag, after an anonymous caller informed the police that bombs were stored at the house. A case has been registered at the Nadapuram police station, officials said. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. During the last three months, the police have seized 15 country-made bombs from the Nadapuram region. Five swords kept in pipes were also seized recently, the police said. Eleven steel bombs were seized from a pineapple grove at Varikkoli in Nadapuram a few months ago. In another incident, a seven-year-old boy had sustained injuries on his hand when one of the explosives went off inside the bathroom of his house at Varikkoli. Investigations into these incidents have not made progress. The police had carried out search operations to control the spread of the "bomb culture" in Vadakara-Nadapauram areas. Senior police officials said security measures would be intensified in view of the coming Assembly elections. Nadapuram and its adjoining areas had witnessed bloody clashes between political groups prior to the Assembly elections in 2001, claiming several lives.
