Professional courses joint entrance test

To be held in Pondy, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam


  • A centralised admission committee has been set up by the Government
  • Test will be conducted at more centres after considering number of candidates, feasibility

    Pondicherry: The Pondicherry Administration has decided to hold Joint Entrance Test (JET) for admission of students during 2006-2007 academic year into professional courses such as Medical, Engineering, Dental, Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Agricultural Science, B. Pharm., B.Sc (Nursing), BPT, B.Sc (Medical Lab Technology) and LL.B courses in institutions run by the Territorial Government and by Societies fully financed by the Government.

    The institutions include Pondicherry Engineering College, Mahatma Gandhi Dental College, Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences and Dr B R Ambedkar Government Law College and other educational institutions in the Union Territory. The Government has also set up through the order (published in the State Gazette) a Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) under the chairmanship of the Commissioner-cum-Secretary to Education.

    The CENTAC has as its members the Secretary to Health Department, Director of Health and Family Welfare Services, Director of Collegiate and Technical Education, Deans of Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mother Theresa Institute of Health Sciences, the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture Karaikal among others. The Principal of the Pondicherry Engineering College T.G. Palanivelu is the convenor of the CENTAC for the year 2006-2007, while D. Govindaraju is the Convenor of the JET 2006.

    The gazette notification also carried details of the schedule of joint entrance test, which would be held in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

    The CENTAC might decide to conduct the test at more centres subject to availability of candidates and feasibility. It might also take decision to charge the examination schedule if such a necessity arose.

    Any change in schedule or other aspects of JET would be advertised in the newspaper and put on website (http:///www.pec.edu) . The medium of the entrance test papers would be in English and Tamil only, the order said.
