Corrections and clarifications

While Shivraj Patil lost the May 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Sushil Kumar Shinde did not contest then, and so it was wrong to say he lost (Editorial, "Decline of the upper house", March 21, 2006). The Manmohan Singh-George Bush nuclear deal was arrived at on July 18. It was not June (Editorial, "Time-tested friendship", March 20, 2006).

In the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and in the women's discus event, though India's Krishna Poonia came up with a personal best of 58.61 m in her final throw, she had to be content with the fifth place. We got it wrong in the sub-heading "Poonia fourth" (Sport, "Seema Antil rises to the occasion", March 22, 2006). In the same issue, in the report "All eyes on Anju", the figures to indicate the personal best of Australia's Bronwyn Thompson have caused confusion. The first reference of 7m indicates her career best, while the second (6.67m) refers to the season's best. The Atlanta Olympics were in 1996, and not 1991, as the Rohit Brijnath column had said ("Rathore — the perfect marksman", March 16, 2006).
