One held on impersonation charge

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Immigration officials on Tuesday arrested K. Balaraju, 32, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on charge of attempting to fly to Sharjah using a passport of another person. Balaraju is from Arepally village of Nizamabad district.

Police seized the passport from Balaraju that was in the name of one Chanda Reddy of the same village.

"It was surprising that Balaraju didn't even substitute his photo on the passport with that of Reddy and tried to board the flight," Begumpet police said.

A labourer, Balaraju flew to Sharjah three years ago on his genuine passport. He worked there for two years but the employer allegedly retained his travel documents.

One day, he fell down from a building and broke his leg. Later, the local police arrested him on charge of living in Sharjah without valid documents and deported him to India.

The labourer told police that he wanted to go back to Sharjah to earn money and bought the passport from Reddy for Rs. 8,000.
