Bangladeshis held on thefts charge

Staff Reporter

Police claim to have solved 19 cases of burglary with their arrest

NEW DELHI: Six illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been arrested by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police for alleged involvement in several cases of burglary across the Capital. The police claim to have solved 19 cases of burglary with their arrest.

A Special Staff team under the supervision of Inspector Rajender Singh had laid a trap at Nizamuddin (East) in South Delhi on Tuesday and arrested the accused -- Abdul Khaliq, Raju, Mohammad Rahim, Mohammad Hiru, Mohammad Safiq and Abdul Rehman -- around 6-30 p.m. when they were on their way to commit another burglary.

The police claimed to have recovered four knives and house-breaking implement from them.

The police alleged that Abdul Khaliq, who has lost one of his arms, was the leader of the gang and an expert in scaling boundary walls and climbing to the upper floors of multi-storey buildings. The gang would conduct reconnaissance during the day and strike at night. They would take a pushcart along with them and pose as labourers, if the police stopped them on the way. After breaking into the house and escaping with whatever they could lay their hands upon, they would hide the booty underneath the cart and go back to their hideout.

In the next couple of days, they would send the booty to their homes in Bangladesh through their agent Moosa. Moosa is currently in Bangladesh. Abdul had sent his share of booty to his native place about five days ago.

The gang has been active in Karol Bagh, Deshbandhu Gupta Road, Pujabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Shalimar Bagh and Patel Nagar. .According to the police, Abdul was also involved in a murder case in Bangladesh. His accomplices too were involved in criminal activities.
