NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan said on Wednesday that his mission was to ensure that by the year 2020 Delhi Metro should cover 400 kilometres of Delhi with a metro station within 500 metres of the residence of each citizen. Speaking at the Delhi Annual Session of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Mr. Sreedharan said for him the others wishes for Delhi were upgradation of the Capital's railway network including the Ring Railway, expansion of the role of the Integrated Road Bus Transit system and cleaning of the Yamuna. Mr. Sreedharan was also felicitated by CII Delhi and Delhi Chief Secretary S. Regunathan who agreed that apart from creation of the Delhi Metro, his most significant contribution had been the refreshing professional work culture and discipline initiated by DMRC. Mr. Regunathan used the opportunity to narrate his Melbourne experience and said the single most important factor that made the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Melbourne a success was the huge number of volunteers, involvement of senior citizens and discipline shown by all the citizens. The Chief Secretary exhorted CII to start the process for creation of this resource pool. .
