Corporation move aims at earning a sizeable income

HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad's Standing Committee has proposed to hike bulk garbage collection charges from commercial establishments like hotels, function halls and commercial complexes.

At the weekly meeting chaired by Mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy here on Wednesday, it was suggested that Rs. 1,000 be charged for cinema houses, Rs. 3,000 for hotels and Rs. 4,000 for function halls per tonne.

Rental to be increased

Nearly 800 tonnes of waste, about one-third of the total solid municipal waste, is generated each day from bulk garbage and the corporation expects to earn a sizeable income from it as there are an estimated 5,000-odd commercial establishments.

It was also decided to hike rental charges of Hari Hara Kala Bhavan in Secunderabad. The hall will be available for rent in three shifts - 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. & till 10 p.m. thereon with charges being Rs. 5,000 for first two sessions and Rs. 6,000 for the last session.

During holidays, charges will be Rs. 10,000 for an entire day and Rs. 8,000 during working days. Earlier, rentals were Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 3,500 for two shifts.

Committee Member Seelam Prabhakar urged officials to look afresh into the issue of tenders issued for cement-concrete roads. He alleged that contractors were not taking up CC roads as cement prices have hit the roof and hence the need for a review of the tenders to expedite works.

The recent theft of sandalwood trees in Indira Park also came up for discussion.

Horticulture officials said that the private security agency was penalised for an amount of Rs. 46,000 and a police case was booked.

Commissioner Sanjay Jaju who attended the meeting announced that the steering committee of Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission has cleared Rs. 247-crore proposal for stormwater drains and flyovers.

Mr. Jaju said Hyderabad's City Development Plan was among the first few to be submitted to the Centre. MCH would contribute 50 per cent, Centre 15 per cent and State 35 per cent of the amount.
