Special police establishment Bill passed

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Parliament on Wednesday approved a bill to amend the law to make Secretary in the Department of Personnel a member of a committee to recommend the appointment of Director of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE), which is better known as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Voice vote

The Bill was passed by voice vote in both the Houses in the midst of Opposition uproar and din over Government's reported move to bring ordinance to exempt some posts from the purview of the office of profit.

The Delhi Special Police Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2006 amends the 1991 Act to make the Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training as one of the members of the committee, which appoints the Director.
