Be careful in dealing with visas, police told

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A day after suspending four Special Branch officials on the charge of clearing 15 persons with fake travel documents to board a flight at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, higher-ups reviewed the procedures being followed for clearance of passengers.

The Hyderabad police top brass reportedly expressed displeasure over frequently reported cases of immigration officials clearing passengers with forged documents. They asked Special Branch officials who were being drafted for immigration duties at the airport to be more careful while verifying visas and passports.

Meanwhile, the Begumpet police said they were yet to question SB Inspector Venkata Ramana and Sub-Inspectors - Nayeem, Mallikarjuna Choudhary and Ananthaiah - with whose alleged connivance 15 passengers tried to board an international flight with fake ECNR certificates recently. All of them were suspended and went on sick leave.
