Programme for children with HIV

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: A skill development workshop for children with HIV, and their parents was organised by Coodu, a non-Governmental organisation (NGO) here recently. It had games and confidence building therapies for children and their parents.

Provides opportunity

"The programme provided an opportunity for the participants to discuss their problems," said G. Muruganandham, Project Co-ordinator of Care and Support Project of the NGO.

Experts from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital interacted with the participants, and spoke on issues concerning people with the disease. Representatives of networks of people with HIV/AIDS also participated in the programme.

Day care

The NGO has a home at Sivananda Colony for people with HIV/AIDS. The NGO's activities for those with HIV are supported by the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society. It is also planning to set up a special care home for children with HIV. The home will begin as a day care with ten beds.
