THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Additional Sessions Judge Fast Track Court II Immanuel P. Kolladi, on Wednesday, sentenced two persons to 16-years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs.10,000 after they were found guilty of gang-raping a 34-year-old woman in front of her children at Attingal in September 2000. The prosecution case was that Suni alias Sunil, 23, and Chempan alias Shibu, 27, residents of Chirayinkeezh, raped the victim in front of her children, aged 6 and 12 years respectively, inside her house at Anathalavattam at 8.30 p.m., after the victim refused to pay heed to the lewd remarks directed against her by the convicts. The convicts entered the house by breaking the rear door of the building. The victim's husband, who was working in the Gulf, deserted her following the incident.
