Kochi: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed against the proposal to construct Model Road by widening the road from the Rajendra Maidan to High Court Junction. The petition was dismissed by the Bench comprising Chief Justice V.K. Bali and Justice J. B. Koshy. The petitioner, Forum for Socio-Economic Studies, contended that project should not be allowed as it would deprive the city of the open spaces. Besides, trees would have to be removed. The Greater Cochin Development Authority submitted that it proposed to widen the road from Bharat Tourist Home to High Court Junction. The court said that by widening the road, the public would stand to benefit in so much so that the traffic bottlenecks on the busy road would be removed. It would thus provide safety to the public. It was not possible for the court to examine the procedural lapses in the project.
