NEW DELHI:
In a resolution passed at the general body meeting organised by the Faculty Association of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday,
"There were several requests and petitions to review the hiked user charges which wasn't helping the patients coming here for treatment in any manner, but the hospital administration chose to overlook the matter," said a faculty member.
Setting a deadline for March 31, the faculty members have demanded withdrawal of the hiked charges and also fixing of responsibility for what they described as a "mindless decision that was against the principles of the Institute".
Faculty Association of AIIMS president A.B. Dey said: "The revision in user charge earns the Institute an addition of only Rs. 1 crore. However, in an institute that is already plush with funds, this extra money need not be created by taxing the poor patients. We are demanding that the Institute go back to the rates that existed before November 2005 and then review the entire system. In case the Institute administration does not look into our demands, we will observe a Black Day on March 31 and continue our agitation."
