This Day That Age
"There is absolutely no restriction on the entry of Indian films to America. Indian film producers and distributors should be able to establish a market for their films in the US by their own merit and showmanship," observed Mr. Eric A. Johnston, President of the Motion Picture Association of America, addressing a press conference in Bombay on March 22. Mr. Johnston said the Association had no control over the cinema houses in that country. If the exhibitors in America could show a number of foreign films produced in countries like Japan, Russia and Italy, he did not understand why they could not show Indian films too. If Indian films with indigenous background, original ideas, good acting and lot of action were sent to America, they would certainly become a great draw. Mr. Johnston declared, "For the last seven or eight years I have been urging the exhibitors in America to show foreign films including films from India. My appeals have not been in vain. More foreign films are being shown in the US now than ever before. As a matter of fact, there are a number of cinema houses showing exclusively foreign films. The Motion Picture Association of America would be prepared to advise the Indian producers on the methods they should adopt for getting an entry for their films in the US.''
