Probe ordered into charge against Biocon
Staff Reporter
Bangalore:
Health and Family Welfare Minister R. Ashok informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that he has ordered an investigation into the charge that Biocon Ltd. has been importing a drug from China illegally instead of manufacturing it here, for which the company has obtained a licence.
Replying to G.V. Srirama Reddy (CPI-M) during Zero Hour, the Minister said the company has obtained a licence from the Centre to manufacture the drug.
Mr. Reddy alleged that the company has been importing the drug stealthily and selling it here for over seven years instead of manufacturing it.
The member said the company approached the Centre and got the licence only after the Drug Controller restrained it from importing the drug from China. It has been allowed to manufacture the drug and not import it, he said.
The Minister said the report based on the investigation will be placed before the House.
