DURBAN: India and South Africa on Thursday signed an agreement to develop a mutually- beneficial relationship in merchant shipping and related maritime transport matters on the basis of sovereign equality and reciprocity. The pact was signed in Cape Town by Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Minister T.R. Baalu and his South African counterpart Jeff Radebe. The accord is valid for five years. ``This agreement shall be renewed automatically for successive periods of one year unless terminated by either party giving six months written notice in advance through the diplomatic channel of its intention to terminate this agreement,'' said the two Ministers in a joint statement. Mr.Baalu is scheduled to travel to Durban where he will be the guest of the local port authorities. He is on a fourday visit to South Africa, and is scheduled to visit Sun City on Saturday before returning on Sunday.
