Transport company staff assaulted, robbed of cash

BANGALORE:
Four armed men attacked an employee of a private transport company and robbed him of Rs. 4,900 in cash and a mobile phone in Subramanya Nagar police station limits on Wednesday. The police said that around 11.30 p.m. Veerana Gowda, a booking clerk at the transport company's office in Rajaji Nagar, was walking towards his house in 2nd Block, Rajaji Nagar. The four men waylaid him near his house and robbed him of the cash and the phone. They hit Gowda on the thigh with a chopper before fleeing.

A jilted lover committed suicide by hanging himself to death from a ceiling fan at his house in 2nd Stage, BTM Layout, the same night. The police gave his name as Bharath Kumar, a college dropout and an employee of a garment factory. Kumar had told his friends that he was in love with a girl and her betrothal was scheduled for Sunday, the police said.
