Villagers seek removal of encroachments from tank

Staff Reporter

ERODE: The villagers of P. Mettupalayam, Bhavani taluk, on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, complaining that a group of fishermen, who encroached upon Anandasagaram tank, were illegally fishing from the tank.

The tank has been benefiting more than 15,000 acres of land. But about one hundred fishermen, without paying any money to the local panchayat, were conducting fishing and enjoying revenue of lakhs of rupees.

The villagers also said that these fishermen were preventing the local people from fishing from the tank and using the tank water.

Hence, they pleaded the Collector to prevent the illegal fishing and to evict the encroachments made by the fishermen in Anandasagaram tank.

The Collector assured that he would do the needful.
