Speaker expresses shock over Sonia's resignation

Pondicherry: Assembly speaker, M. D. R. Ramachandran has expressed shock over the resignation of Sonia Gandhi as Member of Parliament and also the chairperson of National Advisory Council on Thursday.

In a telegram sent to her (copy of which was distributed to media persons) the Speaker said that she had however proved once again that she was a unique personality who could relinquish higher positions to enhance the image of the Congress in the country as a whole and to serve the nation. He recalled in the telegram how Sonia Gandhi had declined to accept the post of Prime Minister in May 2004 when it was offer to her whole heartedly and unanimously by the Congress.
