MELBOURNE: Drug-tainted weightlifters and disappearing athletes have taken some gloss off the Commonwealth Games. Edwin Raju and Tejinder Singh were confirmed on Friday as the Indian weightlifters who returned positives for the banned steroid stanozolol in pre-Games tests. The Court of Arbitration for Sport said it will hold hearings on Saturday in Melbourne and expects to deliver its findings on Sunday, when the Melbourne Games come to a close. Team leader H.J. Dora said any Indian lifter who flunked a doping test at an international event would be banned for life. The Indian federation faces a ban of up to five years from international competition for a spate of doping positives. ``All of our athletes are counselled on the use of banned substances and are fully aware of the consequences should they be found using them,'' he said.
