Rupee slides to 44.66 a $

MUMBAI: Sustained heavy dollar demand from oil corporates and importers on the back of a robust dollar overseas drove the rupee down to a new one month closing low of 44.65/66 a dollar on Friday even as steady foreign portfolio investment inflows partly cushioned its fall.

In yet another nervous session at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee lost another steep 11 paise from Thursday's finish of 44.54/55 after testing a low of 44.68/69 in late morning deals. It opened distinctly weak at 44.62/64.
