Breaches in drinking water pipelines remain unplugged

SALEM: At a time when residents in several parts of the city are facing acute water shortage, the leakages in the drinking water distribution pipelines of the Salem Corporation remain unplugged.

The breaches, which occurred in the distribution pipelines at several places in the city, have resulted in the wastage of water. For instance, the breach in the pipeline near the Corporation Primary School in Annathanapatti remains unattended for more than a month.

Residents said that the Corporation officials were aware of the issue. But, they were yet to initiate steps to plug the leak.

The continued flow of water had damaged the road causing inconvenience to the road users. The two-wheeler riders often fall in the pothole, residents point out.

They have taken the issue to the notice of the higher officials in the Corporation. But it has not evoked a response. The officials said the leakages would be attended to shortly.
