Kalan-led INTUC faction holds special representatives meet
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
One group of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) led by general secretary G. Kalan went ahead with its special representatives meeting on Friday despite a warning issued by the central leadership that disciplinary action would be taken against those who participated in the meeting.
Mr. Kalan on his part warned that the State unit would sever its ties with the central network if any disciplinary action was initiated against the participants.
He said the meeting was held to protect the self-respect of the State unit, which had been "humiliated" by the Congress over the years. For the INTUC, self-respect was more sacrosanct than blindly supporting the Congress. He urged the central leadership to amend its constitution to empower State units to take independent decisions on having alliances.
