GULBARGA: The State B.Ed. and B.P.Ed. Graduates' and Students' Horata Samiti on Thursday urged the State Government to pressure the Centre to amend Article 371 to extend reservation to unemployed graduates from backward regions. Members of the samiti took out a procession in the city and staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office. They submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to the Deputy Commissioner. The demands of the samiti include streamlining the syllabus of higher primary school and amendment to recruitment rules to appoint B.Ed. and B.P.Ed graduates as teachers in higher primary schools. They said in Andhra Pradesh, B.Ed. and B.P.Ed. graduates are being appointed as higher primary school teachers. The memorandum urged the Government to recruit B.Ed. and B.P.Ed. graduates to teach 8th standard students in higher primary schools covered under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan. The Government should take steps to fill the vacant posts of headmaster in high schools. While recruiting B.P.Ed. graduates, sportspersons should be given weightage and reservation, they said.
