Srikakulam: District Collector A. Koteswara Rao on Friday urged all concerned to take steps and remove misconceptions about tuberculosis (TB) among rural people and send the message that TB was curable. Speaking at a meeting organised to mark the World TB Day here, Mr. Rao stressed the need to educate rural people. Officials said that the percentage of successfully cured TB patients in the district stood at 86 per cent as against the national percentage of 84.
Decrease in cases
Kakinada: The incidence of TB has decreased in East Godavari district due to the effective implementation of Revised National TB Control Programme and the Directly Observed Treatment Shirt Course (DOTS), according to S.S.C. Chakra Rao, District Medical and Health Officer. Speaking at a function as part of World TB Day, he said even the morbidity and mortality rate had come down compared to last year. Babji, District TB Control Officer presided. Venkat Rao, medical officer, while presenting a report on the DOT centres, said some 2,220 centres were functioning in the district of which 262 were in the agency area.
