ANANTAPUR : T. Ramaswamy, Director of Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, has stressed the need for a better collaboration between the industry and universities for a mutual benefit. New ideas generated in universities will percolate to the industry fast and help society only with an improved relationship between the two, he felt. Speaking at a national seminar on the "Role of chemistry in emerging areas of biology and industries" at the physics seminar hall on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University near here on Friday, he said universities should give proper encouragement to the individual research by students so that more and more new ideas could come up. He stated that the opportunities to young graduates were increasing in the industry and they should rise to the occasion and grab the chances by concentrating on research during their course. Organic chemistry was playing a key role in the modern society and sectors like environmental pollution were emerging as key areas of development. Both universities and the industry should work with sole objective of serving and satisfying the society by meeting its changing requirements, Mr. Ramaswamy opined. Chemistry was a part of biology and the two wings of science were interlinked and inter-related, he said. He also preferred creation of better awareness on use of drugs in society.
