Collector stalls marriage of two minor girls to a minor boy

Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: But for the last minute intervention by the district administraion, a poor man would have married off his two minor daughters to one minor boy at Vellutla village under Yellareddy police station limits in the district.

One Patel Sailoo, a rythu-coolie has been in distress. He has two daughters -- Sabitha (17) and Manjula (14) -- the former, slightly challenged, completed nursing training, while the latter is studying in 9th standard in a government school.

Mr. Sailoo recently held betrothal ceremony of his daughters for their marriage with the boy (name not known), son of Loka Gangaiah of the same village. It is learnt the bridegroom had agreed to marry the two girls without aspiring much from their father.

Collector D.V.Raidu, on a tip-off, directed Mandal Revenue Officer A. Devender Reddy to rush to the village. Mr. Reddy gave Mr Sailoo counselling and foiled his plan to give away his minor daughters in marriage to the minor boy.
