HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam member Ch. Venkata Rao on Friday demanded in Assembly action against Sitapathi Rao, Advisor to the Government on irrigation, for allegedly using abusive language against Dalit Superintending Engineer Prasada Rao. Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr. Venkata Rao said the Advisor shouted at the official in connection with release of mobilisation advance taking the name of his caste. He wanted the Government to make a statement on the action taken on a complaint given by the engineer. When the Minister P. Lakshmaiah merely said the department was looking into the complaint, a dissatisfied Mr. Venkat Rao and other TDP members in raised voice, demanded firm action. M. A. Gafoor (CPI-M) highlighted the plight of contract workers in AP TRANSCO and demanded payment of minimum wages and extension of insurance and medical benefits to them. G. Kishen Reddy (BJP) demanded increase in the commission for kerosene dealers. Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) wanted release of salaries to teachers in Government primary schools. K. Ramulu (Janata Party) sprang a surprise by appealing to the House to compliment Sonia Gandhi for "sacrificing" the posts of MP and chairperson of National Advisory Committee. D. K. Aruna (Samajwadi Party) urged the Government to take steps to check the high accident rate on Hyderabad- Kurnool road.
