`Use public address systems without causing any inconvenience to public' Only box-type speakers should be used Roads should not be dug to erect arches
Udhagamandalam: Violation of the model code of conduct in any form would be viewed seriously, said the Nilgiris Collector, C. Vijayaraj Kumar, while interacting with representatives of various political parties here on Thursday. Pointing out that over 90 per cent of the election-related graffiti on public walls have been erased, he said that writing slogans or drawing party flags even on private buildings have been banned. Requesting the political parties to use public address systems without causing any inconvenience to the public, he said that if they were used during unauthorised hours appropriate action would be initiated. The parties should ensure that only box type speakers were used. While putting up of cutouts will not be tolerated, roads should not be dug to erect arches. He said that while the public meetings were in progress flags could be displayed but they should be removed immediately after the meeting. Efforts were being made to cover as many voters as possible under the Electors' Photo Identity Card scheme. Mr. Kumar said that in view of the ensuing elections, the administration has taken steps to prevent carrying of weapons by license holders. Accordingly with immediate effect no one should carry weapons for a period of 60 days.
