PATHANAMTHITTA: Expressing strong resentment to the reported electoral tie-up between the Congress and the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) that led to the allotment of Aranmula Assembly seat to the latter, Pathanamthitta district Congress Committee president K. Sivadasan Nair has decided to contest the election as an independent candidate. The Aranmula Assembly segment was represented by the Karunakaran aide Malethu Saraladevi, who had to step down when the Karunakaran loyalists left the Congress to form the DIC(K). Mr. Sivadasan Nair claimed that he had conducted the constituency tour and set up booth committees in Aranmula much in advance with the support and concurrence of the KPCC leadership.
