P.S.Sreedharan Pillai: yardstick applied to K. K. Ramachandran should apply to Purushothaman also.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State president P. S. Sreedharan Pillai on Wednesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the purchase of land by the kin of Finance Minister Vakkom Purushothaman. The State president said that apart from undervaluation of the property for registration, the source of funds for the purchases was suspicious. It was unusual that 23 pieces of property were purchased within one year of Mr. Purushothaman becoming a Minister. Mr. Pillai said that since the Lok Ayukta had issued notice to Mr. Purushothaman, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should drop him from the Cabinet. The yardstick applied to K. K. Ramachandran, who was forced to resign as Health Minister, should apply to Mr. Purushothaman also. He said the Union Ministry for Personnel had returned the State Government's request for entrusting the probe into the SNC Lavalin case to the CBI, as request had not been submitted in the proper format. The Chief Minister should answer why this had happened. The UDF and the LDF, he added, had showed an uncanny knack in undermining corruption cases. Mr. Pillai said the State Election Committee of the party had decided on candidates to be fielded in all the 140 Assembly constituencies. Of these, 108 names had been recommended to the Central Election Committee of the party. In the case of the remaining candidates, some formalities such as taking their consent had to be completed. The list included 21 State-level leaders who are members of the national council, office-bearers of the party and its morchas including three State leaders of the Yuva Morcha. He said the party would keep equidistance from the LDF and the UDF and oppose both of them equally. The party had formed an Election Management Committee with P. K. Krishnadas as convener to manage the campaign.
