Jaya Bachchan not to contest against Sonia

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Thursday dismissed as "mere conjecture" reports that disqualified party MP Jaya Bachchan would be fielded from Rae Bareli against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who on Wednesday resigned from the Lok Sabha.

"It has been agreed in principle that Ms. Bachchan will re-enter the Rajya Sabha," Party's Parliamentary Board chairman Ram Gopal Yadav told reporters here.

The party would "definitely" field a candidate in the Rae Bareli constituency as "we have many other strong and capable candidates."
