Towards a safer Delhi for women

NEW DELHI: The Delhi State Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has in partnership with the Delhi Government and an NGO, Jagori, has decided to work towards making the Capital a safer place for women.

CII-Delhi Chairman A.K. Kaul said a short survey conducted on branding of Delhi revealed that the most common negative factor people mentioned about Delhi was lack of safety for women. The Safe Delhi Initiative will have three elements: illuminating poorly lit commercial and public places, gender training programme for three-wheeler, taxi and bus drivers and conductors, and self-defence classes for women.

ICRI tie up

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Clinical Research (India) has entered into an academic alliance with Europe's leading research-oriented Cranfield University in Britain. This alliance would further the cause of ICRI in India in grooming professionals in clinical research to face challenges posed by the pharmaceutical sector and also pave the way for new career opportunities in this field.

According to ICRI Dean S.K. Gupta, "the association with Cranfield University would help ICRI impart innovative education through international exchange of knowledge dissemination in clinical research, which would further help deliver on the growing demand for highly skilled clinical research professionals in India."

New IGNOU course

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched a certificate programme in health care waste management here this past week. This function was attended by IGNOU Vice-Chancellor H.P. Dixit and Pro-Vice Chancellor S.C.Garg.

The programme has been developed to impart essential knowledge and skills in health care waste management and equip learners to manage it effectively and safely and also safeguard the community against adverse health impact of such waste. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, health managers and other professional workers will benefit from this programme.

Dance festival

NEW DELHI: A two-day festival of classical and modern dance, "Anna Pavlova and India", dedicated to the 125 birth anniversary of the great Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova was inaugurated at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture by well known Kathak exponent Shovana Narayan on Thursday.

Ms. Narayan said art in any form cuts across all barriers and its language is universal. The festival has been jointly organised by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and the National Institute of Performing Arts. Students of School of Russian Classical Ballet presented classical and modern dance items.
