CHENNAI: "If you have the desire to stop drinking, come and share your experiences with another alcoholic." This will be the focal point of discussion of the Chennai inter-group of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday at Community Service Centre, Kilpauk. Besides recovered alcoholics, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner R. Nataraj and director, Community Service Centre, Kilpauk, Rev. V.S. Paul Prakasam, will also address the gathering. Members would share their experiences at a public information meeting in the evening. TTK Hospital director Shanti Ranganathan; writer and Agni trustee Sivasankari; psychiatrist Sarada Menon; Bishop of Chennai Rev. Dr. V. Devasahayam and former director, Community Service Centre, Rt. Rev. Dr. M. Azariah, will be among the guest speakers. Addressing a news conference here on Friday, public information chairman of the Chennai inter-group of AA, Ram, said it had over 40 groups in Chennai city and 80 groups in Tamil Nadu. Chairman of public information Bhalla and chairman, board of Trustees of AA, Lawrie, both from Mumbai, sought the media's support in creating greater awareness among people, especially educated youth who work in call centres, business process outsourcing units and software companies and have a high income. Mr. Bhalla said AA was functioning in 180 countries. The essence of the movement could be summed up in their vision "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change... courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference."
