MANGALORE: Every medical case and diagnosis is a new beginning. The knowledge bank of the medical profession is unfathomable and new graduates should try to hone their skills to absorb the knowledge, said Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya. Delivering the graduation address at the K.S. Hegde Medical Academy at Deralakatte near here on Friday, Dr. Acharya said the profession also gave the opportunity to those in the field to save lives and cure and heal the sick which is considered noble. But it has to be carried on with a missionary zeal at times even sacrificing personal comfort, he said.
`One of the best'
Outlining the growth of the medical and other professional education in the State, Dr. Acharya said the State has become one of the best destinations in the country for professional and medical education. He also paid tributes to the founder of the Nitte Education group late K.S. Hegde and said he was also his political mentor. Delivering the presidential address, Vice-Chancellor of the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute S.S.K. Marthandam said the problem of today's world was not finding knowledge but classifying, absorbing and using it for the benefit of mankind. In the modern way of life as well as learning, especially medicine, a graduate has to continuously update his knowledge and become a "global learner". Earlier, Dean of the Medical Academy Shantaram Shetty welcomed the gathering. He outlined the philosophy of the K.S. Hegde Medical Academy. Chairman of the Nitte Education Trust N.V. Hegde spoke. Toppers in different specialities were honoured. They are Shama Prakash medicine; Sowmya K. general surgery; Preeti Kedilaya paediatrics; and obstetrics and gynaecology Aditya V. Bharadwaj.
