Arun Kulandai bags overall performance medal

CHENNAI: The MEASI Academy of Architecture observed its second graduation day here recently. A leading architect from Bangalore V.K. Thyagarajan addressed the second batch of B.Arch students, 16 of whom obtained first class and one a first class with distinction.

The management awarded a gold medal for `best overall performance' to Arun Kulandai, who also secured the fifth rank in the university. A gold medal for `best B.Arch thesis' went to Hana Samad.

Presiding over the function, K. Ameenur Rehman, chairman, MEASI Academy of Architecture, said the students had been performing well consistently.

H.M. Shamsudeen, secretary, MEASI Academy, said Elizabeth Alex, a IV semester student, won the first prize for her paper presentation on `Green Architecture' at a competition organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries and Green Building Council of India, in association with the Indian Institute of Architects. The student received the award from President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. A project by Prasanna Pandian, a final year B.Arch student, has been shortlisted for the Saint Gobain national-level award for `transparency' in buildings.

Mr. Thyagarajan said the opportunities for young architects were limitless, provided they kept abreast of the cutting edge technologies and were willing to develop a yearning for lifelong learning.

The academy was also organising communication and personality development programmes to help the students improve their communication and presentation skills, said N. Altaf Ahmed, director.
