Catalyst Trust's poster on voter awareness.
CHENNAI : City-based non-governmental organisations, the Peoples Union for Civil Liberties, the Catalyst Trust and the Citizens consumer and civic Action Group formed an "Election Watch Group" on Friday to campaign for voter awareness ahead of the Assembly elections. Representatives of the group said they would strive to network residents welfare associations all over the state to create a healthy atmosphere for the elections. They appealed for resident associations to join hands. S.Krishnaswamy, managing trustee of Catalyst Trust, said the most important task for the group would be in getting all eligible voters to vote. It is possible to obtain details about the candidates through the affidavits they submit at the time of filing nominations. Citizens Watch would create awareness among voters to go and ask for such information," he said. A.K.Venkat Subramanian, trustee of Catalyst Trust, said the group would also look at creating awareness for the polling officers on various rules of election. The group also released awareness posters that quoted Mahatma Gandhi on voting for a good candidate and President Kalam's quote on why voters should exercise their franchise.
